Web Design Psychology: The Principles
#1 Never start with a design
This may seem counter-intuitive, but you should never, ever start a website project with the design. To start with, all you need is your client, a pad, and a pen. Your goal here is to find out what’s at the core of your client’s project or business, and to construct a clear idea of the demographic your website will be targeting. It’s key at this point to ask as many relevant questions as possible – let your client do the talking, and (with a bit of guidance on your part) you should quickly be able to build a mind-map of what their needs and requirements are.
